WHAT TO EXPECT

What you have to do.

Because of the magnetic field and the potential harmful effects associated with all metallic objects in a magnetic field, you will be asked to leave personal belongings in your dressing room.  Additionally, you should check with your doctor or MRI Technologist if you have had any brain, ear, eye, or other surgeries or any of the following:

  • Pacemaker or defibulator
  • Metal Implants
  • Aneurysm Clips
  • Surgical Staples
  • Neuro-stimulator (Tens-unit)
  • Implanted Drug Infusion Devices
  • Foreign Metal Objects In The Eye
  • Shrapnel or Bullet Wounds
  • Permanent Eyeliner
  • If you are pregnant, be sure to notify your physician

The procedure typically will last anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the type of information required by your physician. All that is required of you is to be as still as possible during the exam. In fact, some patients fall asleep during their exam. You will be easily seen by the technologist at all times
For your convenience, an intercom is built into the magnet so that if you should need anything, the technologist will be right there.

While you have your MRI you may listen to your choice of music from our library of relaxing music. Some patients even fall asleep during the procedure, that's ok too!

We've done everything we can to make your open MRI a pleasant experience. Remember, an MRI is one of the best non-invasive diagnostic tools your physician has to help recommend the appropriate treatment for you. It is important to take all medication your Doctor may have perscribed for pain, muscle spasms or any other medication to make you comfortable.  This will not have any effects on your exam.
